Renaissance Single Rum 2018

Renaissance Single Rum 2018 is a single cask from Taiwan, a young but ambitious origin where tropical heat drives quick, expressive maturation. Distilled on a pot still from molasses, aged four years in Ex-Bourbon oak and bottled at full cask strength of 63.2%, this is a vivid, high energy rum that punches well above its modest age.

The nose is fruit forward and almost playful, strawberry and tropical fruit alongside apple and a flowery lift, with some tasters catching a fermented red fruit, strawberry yoghurt quality. The palate keeps the tropical fruit and apple going, framed by old wood and allspice, while the finish brings burnt sugar, licorice, melon and berries. There is real depth of flavour packed into the four years here, the tropical climate and active barrel doing the heavy lifting. A little water or time in the glass opens it nicely, revealing a creamy, toasty side beneath the proof.
