A nineteen year old Foursquare single cask from Whisky & Rhum, pot-still and made without added sugar, unusually fruity with cherry, apricot and orange peel over roasted oak, a vibrant and orchard-fruited cask-strength Bajan at 52%.
Description
Whisky & Rhum bottled this single cask of Foursquare under the L'Esprit label, a nineteen year old Barbados rum from the 2002 vintage out of Richard Seale's St Philip distillery. Recorded as a pot-still expression and bottled at cask strength without added sugar, it offers an unusually fruit-forward take on the house style while staying true to Foursquare's no-additives ethos.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak, it departs from the usual coconut-and-toffee Bajan template, with a nose of cherry, yellow fruit and orange peel and a palate of roasted notes, vanilla, apricot and cherry. The finish brings peach, freshness and oily oak. At 52% it is lively and aromatic, and tasters note how far it sits from the typical Foursquare benchmark, a fresher, more orchard-fruited cask that shows another face of the distillery, rewarding for those who already know the standard profile.
