474 Esters from Danish bottler Romdeluxe is exactly what its name suggests: an unaged, unsweetened high-ester Dominican spirit bottled at an extreme 93%. This is a deliberate experiment in ester-driven intensity rather than a conventional rum, pushed to near-distillation strength and stripped of any softening sugar or wood.

The column-distilled spirit comes across as glue, solvent and raw alcohol with a citrus, lemon and green-apple edge, and the finish stays in that solvent-and-anise register. Some find a surprising sweetness and fruit hiding behind the power, but there is no pretending this is an easy drink; at 93% it is punishing neat and far closer to a technical curiosity than a sipper. It belongs in tiny cocktail doses or geeky side-by-side tastings, an interesting one-off for committed enthusiasts rather than anything resembling a relaxed pour.
