A 25 year old single cask Jamaican blending Hampden and a younger Long Pond, a refined mid-ester sipper of tropical fruit, banana, caramelized sugar and vanilla over subtle oak, bottled by Wu Dram Clan at 50.1%.
Description
This 25 year old comes from the German bottler Wu Dram Clan, a single cask that drinkers read as a marriage of Hampden and a younger Long Pond with a foreground apricot note, landing somewhere near the low-ester end of the spectrum. Blending two Trelawny houses lets it round off the rough edges of either on its own.
Distilled on the pot still from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon casks, it is bottled unsweetened at 50.1%. The nose carries ester, tropical fruit, vanilla and citrus, the palate turns fruity and woody with caramelized sugar and ester, and the finish stays woody, fruity and dry with an espresso edge. A quarter century of ageing has pulled the funk back into a smooth, mature register, the esters subtle and the oak gentle rather than a face-full of solvent. A refined, mid-ester Jamaican for drinkers who want the island's character softened into an easy, contemplative sipper rather than a power-funk monster.
