An Armagnac finished Guadeloupe agricole from Longueteau, this anniversary release is dry and wood forward with dried fruit, caramel, vanilla and coffee, a contemplative cane juice sipper at 44.4%.
Description
Longueteau, founded in 1895, is the oldest family owned agricole distillery still running on Guadeloupe, working from fresh pressed cane juice on a column still. This 125 ans is an anniversary bottling finished in Armagnac casks, an aged cane juice rum that trades grassy freshness for a dry, wood driven depth, bottled at 44.4%.
The Armagnac finish leaves its mark in dried fruit and a brandy like roundness, the nose showing wood, vanilla, fruit and a nutty edge, the palate turning to vanilla, brown sugar and caramel, the finish carrying oak, prunes, coffee and spice. The emphasis is on oak, dried fruit and spice rather than sweetness or cane funk, giving a polished, contemplative character. It is best taken slowly neat, well suited to drinkers who enjoy dry, oak led rum or cross over from Armagnac.
