A single cask fifteen year Panama from Fine Spirits, ex-bourbon aged and undosed, offering caramel, vanilla, dried fruit and fudge with an anise and herbal edge in a light, citrus tinged sipper at 43%.
Description
This Rum of the World release from Fine Spirits is a fifteen year Panama single cask, drawn from a column still molasses spirit and aged in ex-bourbon. Bottled at 43% and declared unsweetened, it offers a drier, undosed look at the normally soft Panama profile, in the independent bottling tradition.
The nose carries caramel, vanilla and a herbal, anise edge, while the palate turns sweet with dried fruit, fudge and citrus, finishing creamy with young wood, raisin and vanilla. Reviewers are mixed, with one finding the alcohol integration harsh and the body watery for what it aims to be, and another noting a light, fruity, lightly chocolatey character with cherry and a touch of polish that is interesting for a Panama. Because it carries no added sugar, it shows the spirit honestly, including a lighter body, a citrus and anise inflected Panama for drinkers who prefer their rum dry and unembellished.
