Coruba Pedro Ximenez 2000

Coruba is a long established Jamaican rum brand, and this release pairs a 2000 vintage with twenty years of ageing and Pedro Ximenez sherry cask influence, bottled unsweetened at 50.6% cask strength.

No individual notes accompany this bottling. PX casks typically lend dark, raisined sweetness, dried fig, date and a syrupy depth of flavour, which here would be expected to layer over the aged Jamaican base of oak, dried fruit and softened tropical funk. At cask strength the rum stays rich and concentrated rather than light. It reads as a dessert-leaning aged Jamaican shaped strongly by its sherry wood, made for drinkers who enjoy dark fruit and oak alongside the island's character.
