Description

This Rhum J.M Single Barrel 1999 is a long-aged Martinique agricole from the far-north distillery at the foot of Mont Pelee, distilled from fresh sugarcane juice and given 21 years in ex-bourbon oak. With AOC Martinique status and single-cask provenance, this 1999 is a mature, wood-led release bottled at a gentle 43.15%, unsweetened.

The creole column keeps the cane character in the spirit, and two decades in tropical cask have driven deep oak extraction while keeping the rum approachable. The nose is fruity and floral with wood, barrel and a roasted edge, the palate woody and spicy with roasted and fruity notes, the finish on wood, leather, vanilla and a sweet impression that comes from age. It drinks smooth and refined for its years, the fruit and herbs softening the oak. An elegant, easy-sipping aged agricole for a quiet glass, neat.
