Chatel Punch Mangue

Chatel is a Reunion house making rhum arrange and punch by steeping fruit in rum, and this Punch Mangue is built squarely around mango. It is a flavoured, sweetened, low-proof spirit, and is best understood as a fruit punch rather than a rum to study.

Mango leads simply and clearly on nose and palate, ripe and tropical, on a cane-juice base distilled on a column still. At just 16% it is very light and soft, openly sweet, with a finish that turns slightly bitter. This is an easygoing, holiday-style mango punch for serving very cold or stretching in a long drink, honest about being a sugary tropical infusion. It makes no pretence of depth or dryness, and is most enjoyable taken on those relaxed terms, a straightforward burst of mango with a gentle rum lift.
