A drier Nicaraguan column rum from a 1992 single barrel, leaning on oak, espresso and walnut over a light fruit core, balanced and round at 40% with a roasted, slightly tannic edge rather than sugary softness.
Description
Cañero bottled this from a single 1992 barrel under its La Rhumerie label, a Nicaraguan molasses rum drawn from one cask rather than a continuous solera. It carries a vintage that points to long maturation, and the house presents it at an easy 40% rather than full proof, aiming for elegance over power.
Distilled on a column still in the lighter Central American manner, then aged in oak, it reads more structured than the region's sweeter sippers. Expect an aromatic, balanced nose giving way to oak, nuttiness and a sweet-but-restrained palate, with espresso, walnut and vanilla on a finish that turns dry and faintly tannic, like coffee brewed a touch too strong. A single-barrel ron for drinkers who want wood and roast rather than candied sweetness.
