A four year old Martinique agricole from Rhum J.M at 46 percent, where fresh cane juice meets a wood and spice forward profile of orange peel, cinnamon, pepper and vanilla, lively and bright in a glass or a cocktail.
Description
Rhum J.M sits in the far north of Martinique near Mont Pelee, an AOC house prized for terroir and built on fresh cane juice and creole column distillation. Epices Creoles, the name a nod to creole spice, leans into the oak driven side of agricole, the cane base seasoned by time in barrel rather than dominated by grassy freshness.
Four years in ex bourbon wood under a warm climate pushes the spice forward. The nose carries cinnamon, vanilla and woody spice, the palate turns peppery and spicy with dried fruit, and orange peel and warm baking spice run through the finish. The fresh cane character sits underneath, a green, lively thread beneath the wood. At 46 percent it has the intensity to light up mixed drinks while staying drinkable neat, a bottle for those who enjoy bourbon like oak alongside agricole snap.
