Santa Teresa 1796 Solera Rum

Santa Teresa 1796 is a Venezuelan ron built on the solera method, a fractional blending system borrowed from sherry in which older and younger rums are progressively married so the bottle always holds a trace of much older spirit. The number is a system reference rather than an age statement, which is worth keeping in mind: this is column distilled molasses rum from a producer well regarded for its finesse, not a single vintage with decades in the barrel.

The profile leans soft and rounded, with vanilla, caramel, honey and dried fruit ahead of light spice and a woody, gently sweet finish. There is sweetness in the glass, as the style invites, though it sits drier and more composed than many of the lushest Venezuelan and Guatemalan rums. Smooth and easy at 40%, it suits relaxed after-dinner sipping, ice, or simple cocktails.
