10 Cane Rum

10 Cane was Trinidad's LVMH-backed white rum, distilled on a pot still and rested only around six months before bottling at 40%. It was conceived as a fresh, light-bodied mixing rum, and that brief shows clearly, this is a young, pale spirit rather than an aged Trinidadian sipper.

Lightly held in ex-bourbon oak, it stays light and a touch sweet, with citrus on the nose and a thin, slightly diluted palate carrying noticeable spirit. The finish turns volatile with a faint woody, savoury edge. Several drinkers note its resemblance to cachaca and its value as a mixer rather than a neat pour, and that is the honest read, a clean but lightweight white whose strength is in cocktails, where its freshness and citrus lift can find a proper home.
