A column still blanc from Bielle on Marie Galante, pressed from fresh sugar cane juice and bottled by Velier at a gentle 41%, all sugarcane sap, citrus and hay with a floral lift and a faintly briny, grassy snap.
Description
Velier put its name to this white agricole from Bielle, a small Marie Galante distillery known for cane variety experiments and its high proof blancs. Distilled from fresh-pressed sugar cane juice rather than molasses, it sits at the gentler end for the island, bottled at 41% rather than the 55 to 59% Marie Galante blancs often reach.
The creole column, run low to keep the green congeners in the spirit, gives a nose of sugarcane, citrus and floral notes over a vegetal base. The palate stays fresh and lightly oily with lime and hay, closing grassy and saline with a hint of green olive. The reduction to 41% softens its punch, so it reads as an easy, aromatic blanc for a Ti' Punch or a long drink rather than a high-octane sipper. Unaged and built on freshness, it is cane juice in its most direct form.
