An 8 year old single cask from Martinique’s Trois Rivieres finished in cognac wood and bottled at 46.7%, floral and woody with apple and cognac up front, then grape and nutty oak over a fruity, tea-like, vegetal finish.
Description
Trois Rivieres Single Cask 2005 is an aged single-cask agricole from Trois Rivieres, an estate with roots to 1660 and over a century of rum-making, now distilled at the La Mauny site. Distilled from fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice and matured around eight years with cognac-cask influence, this single barrel was bottled without added sugar.
The nose is floral and woody with apple and a clear cognac note. The palate carries apple, wood, grape and a nutty edge, the cognac cask layering vinous fruit over the agricole base, and the finish stays fruity with a tea-like note, a vegetal cane thread and lingering wood. The result is drier and more structured than a sweet molasses rum, the cognac wood adding orchard and grape character rather than sweetness. Bottled at 46.7%, it is balanced and approachable in strength. A refined single cask for drinkers who enjoy the meeting of French-island cane and cognac oak, best sipped neat to follow its fruit and wood layers.
