A historic Navy-style blend bottled by Velier from a 1954 vintage, dark and contemplative with plum, molasses, cigar and leather over roasted wood, unsweetened and bottled at 53%, a piece of liquid history more than an everyday sipper.
Description
Bottled by Velier, the Genoa house most associated with rescuing old tropical rum, this is a Navy-style blend drawn from a 1954 vintage, in the tradition of the dark Jamaica-and-Guyana marriages once supplied to the services. The Royal Army Service Corps title nods to that heritage, and the rum carries the deep, layered character of decades-old spirit, bottled unsweetened from a single cask.
The nose is dark and brooding, toasted wood, plum, molasses and cigar, the palate brings plum, leather and an elegant, barrel-driven weight, and the finish runs dry with leather and licorice. At 53% it is rich without being hot. This is a collectible, slow-sipping rum built for an occasion, the kind of historic bottling that rewards patient contemplation rather than casual pouring, and stands apart from anything in the modern range.
