A dry, refined Martinique single cask from Neisson, ten years old and bottled for La Maison du Whisky, layering praline, nuts, apricot and chocolate over discreet wood and fresh cane, unsweetened at 45.4%.
Description
This Neisson Single Cask 2004 was selected for La Maison du Whisky, pairing the well-regarded Martinique distillery with one of France's notable specialist retailers. Distilled from fresh sugarcane juice and matured ten years in ex-bourbon oak, this single cask carries AOC Martinique status and sits at a manageable 45.4%, unsweetened and built for sipping.
The creole column keeps the cane congeners present beneath the maturity, the nose woody and fresh with apricot and chocolate. The palate is dry and elegant with cinnamon, apricot, nuts and praline, fresh cane lending lift, the finish long on wood, tobacco, hazelnut and spice. The texture and balance are the draw, the wood discreet enough to let the fruit and cane lead. A complex, finely judged aged agricole that pushes the dry Martinique style further while staying elegant, best appreciated neat.
