An 8 year old Martinique vieux from Trois Rivieres bottled at 42%, ex-bourbon ageing bringing prune, apricot and oak up front, then a woody, peppery, minty palate over a fruity, floral, grassy finish.
Description
Trois Rivieres Vieux 8 Ans is an aged Martinique agricole from Trois Rivieres, an estate dating to 1660 with over a century of rum-making, now distilled at the La Mauny site. Made from fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice under the island's rum AOC, at eight years it comfortably clears the XO threshold, and tropical ageing makes that maturity show.
The nose offers prune, apricot, oak and orchard fruit. The palate is woody and peppery with a flowery, minty lift, and the finish stays fruity and peppery with a floral, grassy edge that keeps the agricole character present beneath the oak. This is the drier, spice-forward profile typical of aged French-island rum rather than a sweet molasses style, the bourbon cask adding structure without burying the cane. Bottled at an easy 42%, it makes an accessible aged agricole, equally at home as a neat sipper or stirred into a rum old fashioned for those who like a grassy backbone in their drink.
