Clarendon Monymusk Special Reserve

This 10 Year Old comes from Clarendon, the Clarendon parish workhorse that runs both pot and column stills, here under the distillery's own Monymusk brand, the column-leaning name used for its lighter, more accessible stock. Distilled from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon, it is built as an everyday Jamaican blend rather than a funk showcase, the pot-still character softened for easy drinking.

The nose is gentle, vanilla, coconut, dried fruit and wood, the palate brings raisin, vanilla and coconut in a mild frame, and the finish carries pastry, spice, oak and licorice. Bottled at 40% and unsweetened, it offers a soft, coconut-and-vanilla take on Jamaica with just enough ester lift to keep it lively, a relaxed, well-priced sipper or mixer that introduces the island's character without the overproof intensity.
