A long-aged Martinique agricole from the 1975 vintage at 43%, mellow and complex with vanilla, dried fruit, cinnamon and leather over oak, finishing on brown sugar and grassy cane, an old cane juice rum of real depth.
Description
J. Bally is a storied Martinique name, its Plantation bottlings prized among collectors of old agricole, and this Lajus du Carbet carries a 1975 vintage. Distilled from fresh-pressed sugar cane juice and bottled at 43%, it is a glimpse of Martinique cane juice from another era.
Given decades of maturation, it has settled into a deep, harmonious profile: vanilla, oak, dried fruit and cinnamon on the nose, a sweetly spiced, leathery and layered palate, and a finish of oak, brown sugar, caramelised notes and a persistent agricole grassiness. The long ageing brings out tertiary richness while the cane character still threads through, the hallmark of a well-kept vintage agricole. The strength is gentle and the whole pour rewards patience. A quietly impressive old Martinique rum for those who want to taste the style with the depth that only serious age can give.
