A 10 year old J.M from the 1997 vintage, cask strength Martinique cane juice aged in ex-bourbon at 48.8%, staying fresh and orchard fruited with apple, nougat, caramel and a green, floral, lightly nutty finish.
Description
Rhum J.M 1997 is an aged vintage from the J.M distillery in northern Martinique, set against the volcanic Mont Pelee terroir within the island's rum AOC. Distilled from fresh cane juice on a column still, this 10 year old was matured in ex-bourbon wood and bottled unsweetened at a cask strength 48.8%.
The house freshness survives the decade in oak. Apple and green orchard fruit lead the nose with a nutty edge, the palate brings caramel, nougat and a gentle toast, and the finish returns to green fruit, apple and florals. Light roasted and dried fruit notes from the wood frame a core that stays bright rather than heavy. A fresh, fruit driven aged agricole for drinkers who like J.M's orchard character carried at full strength, rewarding neat with a little time in the glass.
