The Liquor Company Cuate Anejo Gran Reserva

    700ml / 40.2%
    Extra Añejo Rum

    $61

A no-age Barbados-rooted sipper with clear added sweetness, soft and mild with caramel, chocolate, coconut and praline, easy neat or in cola and honest about leaning closer to dessert than a dry aged rum, gentle at 40.2%.

    Available

Cuate Anejo Gran Reserva is bottled by The Liquor Company from Barbados-style distillate, a no-age-statement blend built for easy, comforting drinking. It sits at the soft, accessible end of the island's reach rather than among the dry, additive-free Bajan bottlings, and the copy is honest that this is a sweetened pour rather than a purist one.

Distilled from molasses on the pot still and openly sweetened, it reads as a mild, rounded sipper. The aroma carries barrel, chocolate and a warm, macaroon-like note, the palate is caramel, chocolate and sweetness, and the finish brings dried fruit, praline and more caramel. The texture is oily and the whole thing leans toward dessert, comparable to the softer Spanish-style rums in feel, very mild and approachable neat, in cola or even alongside tea. Anyone chasing high-ester character or big oak grip should look elsewhere, but as a gentle, sweet 40.2% pour it does its job.
