A twenty-four-year Hampden HLCF at 61.6%, an elegant yet powerful funk bomb of grilled pineapple, banana, olive brine and herbs over deep oak spice, certified unsweetened and built for patience.
Description
This Rum Nation Small Batch is part of the dry Rare Rums tier, a Hampden drawn from the HLCF marque, distilled in 1992 and bottled at twenty-four years old. Hampden in Trelawny is the reference point for high-ester Jamaican funk, and HLCF sits firmly in that camp; given long age and full strength, this is a heavyweight that asks for time and attention rather than a quick measure.
Distilled on the double-retort pot stills from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon oak, the long maturation layers deep oak spice over the ester core. After a good rest in the glass it opens to massive esters, grilled pineapple and banana, olive brine, herbs and roasted, spicy wood, with a dry, woody, tropical finish. Certified unsweetened and bottled at 61.6%, it drinks as an elegant but powerful funk bomb, best neat after plenty of air or with a few drops of water. One strictly for enthusiasts who already know they love aged high-ester Hampden.
