Velier Blairmont 1991

Velier bottled this 1991 Blairmont, a Demerara distilled on the metal Savalle column, the cleaner and more refined end of the Guyanese range. From Luca Gargano's Velier, the defining name in old Demerara, it shows how the Savalle's elegance can carry real depth after fifteen years of ageing.

Distilled from molasses on the Savalle still and finished in Port casks, it pours rich yet drinks remarkably silky for 56%: vanilla, cream toffee, oak and raisin on the nose, then vanilla, caramel, raisin and wood on a rounded, pastry-like palate, finishing on caramel, liquorice and dried fruit. Bottled dry, with seamless alcohol integration, it earns frequent comparison to the great Port Mourant and Enmore bottlings while keeping its own softer, more polished character. A prized, contemplative Velier Demerara for experienced drinkers.
