Velier Caroni 37th Release Heavy Rum Guyana Stock HTR 1994

Velier bottled this Caroni from the 1994 vintage as its 37th release, drawing on the closed Trinidad distillery made legendary by Velier's finite, tropically aged casks. At twenty-three years and 59%, it delivers dry, deeply oak-influenced Trinidad power, slightly less bitter and dirty than some siblings but still firmly in the heavy camp.

The molasses spirit, matured in ex-bourbon oak, opens on wood, leather, polish and petrol. The palate brings wood, mint, petrol and dark chocolate, while roasted notes, banana, toffee and a cappuccino-like edge build underneath, the finish long and warming on wood, dark chocolate and leather. Added sugar is unconfirmed but the rum reads dry. The intensity and cask power are kept intact while the harshest edges are pulled back a little, making this a rewarding heavy Caroni for collectors of the Velier era who want depth without the most bruising bitterness.
