Description
Grays is one of Mauritius's established producers, and this New Grove Royal Rum Blend was selected as a single cask for the 60th anniversary of La Maison du Whisky. Mauritius sits outside the agricole appellations, and this expression is made from molasses, so it drinks as a soft, fruit-forward island rum rather than a grassy cane-juice spirit.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak and bottled at 45.6%, it offers a generous nose of dried apricot, peach and mandarin with a peppery lift, then a sweet, fruity, citrus-edged palate that stays easy and balanced. The finish brings woody spice and a touch of leather. Tropically aged for a decade, it carries real fruit depth while remaining very approachable neat, a fine stepping stone for anyone exploring the rums of the Indian Ocean.
