Vanûa Rum

Vanûa is an approachable Fijian rum, a five year cane juice spirit run off a pot still and matured in ex bourbon before bottling at a gentle 40%. Fiji's rums often carry a distinctive maritime, slightly briny streak, and this one shows a touch of that character wrapped in an easygoing, sweet leaning package aimed at relaxed drinking.

The nose is soft and sweet, vanilla and honey with a fruity lift and a light alcoholic note. The palate brings a curious salty, iodine edge alongside honey and a gentle sweetness, before a finish of vanilla, oak and a little pepper. There is some classic Fijian honey and floral character here, with toasted almond and hazelnut on the side, though the finish runs short. It is simple and undemanding by design, an honest, inexpensive pour for casual sipping or an uncomplicated mixed drink rather than anyone chasing depth.
