A light, budget Dominican ron from Ron Barcelo at a low 37.5%, this young Anejo offers soft caramel, toffee, vanilla and a coffee and wood edge, a thin, easy mixer built for cola and soft drinks rather than neat sipping.
Description
Ron Barcelo Anejo is an entry expression of one of the Dominican Republic's big three houses, made here by Alcoholes Finos Dominicanos and labelled as a young cane-juice rum. Distilled on a column still and rested briefly in ex-bourbon wood, it sits at the soft, accessible base of Spanish-style rum, where the light spirit leans on barrel and gentle sweetness.
The nose is spirity with barrel, coffee and vanilla, the palate brings a sharper alcohol edge with caramel, wood and vanilla, and the finish is spicy and woody with dark chocolate. At a modest 37.5% and only three years old the body is light and thin, so the honest framing is a budget mixer rather than a sipper. It does its job pleasantly with cola or soft drinks, soft and easy in that setting, but drinkers hoping to enjoy it neat will find it short and simple. On mixer terms it is agreeable value.
