Description

CINECANE from German bottler Tastillery takes Barbados rum and runs it firmly into novelty territory, a flavoured spirit built around the smell and taste of fresh cinema popcorn. It is best understood as a fun, flavour-led product rather than a serious aged Bajan sipper, and it makes no attempt to hide that.

The base is molasses rum matured in ex-bourbon oak, but the popcorn flavouring dominates from start to finish, intense buttered caramel, toffee and toasted corn that genuinely evokes a movie theatre. The texture is sweet and rounded, the alcohol shows a little at 41.2%, and the finish keeps the buttery, toffee-popcorn theme going. Drinkers chasing classic rum structure will find none of it here, but in cola, in a popcorn old fashioned or alongside dessert, it delivers exactly the playful hit it promises.
