Description

Rhum J.M VSOP comes from one of Martinique's most northerly estates, founded in 1845 and prized for the volcanic terroir around Mont Pelee. As an AOC rhum agricole it is distilled from fresh pressed cane juice rather than molasses, run off a single creole column at low strength to keep the green, vegetal cane character intact, and the VSOP mention places it at a minimum of four years in oak.

The ex-bourbon ageing gives vanilla, soft caramel and dried fruit, but the spirit stays true to the agricole idiom underneath, dry and lightly earthy with white pepper, woody spice and the grassy snap of sugarcane sap on the finish. Tropical maturation packs more into four years than a cooler climate would, and the result is balanced and unsweetened, made for sipping or for a classic Ti Punch. A clear, well priced way to learn what aged Martinique rhum is supposed to taste like.
