Charrette Héritage Le Vanillé

Charrette is a well known Reunion brand, and this Heritage Le Vanille is an arrange, a flavoured rum infused with vanilla rather than a straight cane juice spirit. Built on a base distilled from fresh pressed cane juice, it is steeped with vanilla and clearly sweetened, a dessert leaning bottling pitched at casual drinking and bottled soft at 40%.

This is openly a sweet, flavoured pour rather than a dry sipper, the nose all vanilla, gingerbread and honey, the palate sugary and soft with vanilla and cane, the finish long and rounded on vanilla and honey. The infusion and added sugar make it taste closer to a vanilla liqueur than to an aged rum, the cane character largely in the background. It is an easy, gentle treat for vanilla lovers and non rum drinkers, best enjoyed neat or over ice for what it is, with no pretence of dryness.
