Maison La Mauny XO

La Mauny is a heritage Martinique agricole house at Riviere-Pilote, and this XO is a seven year old aged in ex-bourbon oak and bottled unsweetened at 40%. As an AOC Martinique rum it is distilled from fresh cane juice on a creole column, the only rum governed by a wine-style appellation, here in an easy-going, everyday aged form.

Seven years of tropical ageing brings vanilla, dried fruit and baking spice over well-judged, elegant oak, while the cane-juice base keeps a peppery, vegetal lift underneath so it never reads as a sweet molasses rum. With no added sugar it stays dry and balanced, and at 40% it is soft and very drinkable rather than intense. That makes it a fine introduction to aged agricole and a dependable daily pour, the kind of approachable XO that sits comfortably alongside the gentler Martinique sippers.
