T.D.L Angostura 1919

Angostura 1919 is a blend from Trinidad Distillers Limited, the Trinidadian column still house behind the famous bitters, working in the light, smooth and fragrant Spanish leaning idiom from local molasses. It carries an eleven year statement and has been aged in ex-bourbon oak before bottling at a gentle 40%.

This is a sweetened rum, and the dosage shows in its comforting, dessert leaning character, clear vanilla, caramel, honey and raisin with a soft, sweet finish. Read honestly it is an easygoing entry level sipper rather than a dry, structured one, the kind of rum that introduces newcomers gently and slips just as easily into a simple cocktail. There is a hint of Trinidad's woodier, more herbal side underneath for those who look, but the appeal here is the smooth, sweet, vanilla and caramel comfort up front.
