Description
A distillery release of Glenfarclas, a 13 year old, from 1999, cask 7073 + 7075, at 59.1%, a festival cask. Glenfarclas, the glen of green grass, is a richly sherried Speyside single malt. Its water rises from the granite of Ben Rinnes, above the distillery at Ballindalloch. It launched the 105 in 1968, one of the first cask strength single malts sold to the public. It holds some sixty eight thousand casks on site in dunnage warehouses, with stock from every year since 1953.
The spirit was taken gently through wash and spirit stills, giving a deep, full bodied Speyside spirit. It was matured in an Oloroso sherry cask, the wood working deep into the malt. In integration coconut and vanilla knit with the malt, the orchard notes deepening to sultana, date and chocolate. The cool, slow dunnage ageing loses little to evaporation, the spirit holding its depth.
Bottled at a cask strength 59.1%, it is deep and concentrated. Raisin, chocolate and a warm spice, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Beneath it run dried fruit, dark sugar and a warm spice. The finish runs long, full and warming. This is a rich Speyside malt of dried fruit and nut.
