Description
This official Glenfarclas, a 19 year old, from 1987, cask 3703,3708-12,3861-66, at 48.8%, 1050 bottles in all. Glenfarclas, the glen of green grass, is a richly sherried Speyside single malt. It draws on that deep inventory for the Family Casks, single vintages reaching back to the 1950s. Its whiskies are bottled at their natural colour, without chill filtration. It launched the 105 in 1968, one of the first cask strength single malts sold to the public.
The spirit was worked unhurried through the stillhouse, giving a deep, full bodied Speyside spirit. It was matured in an Oloroso sherry cask, the wood working deep into the malt. Through oxidative maturity the esters concentrate, the orchard notes turning to raisin, fig and a dark chocolate. The cool, slow dunnage ageing loses little to evaporation, the spirit holding its depth. Active wood drives the maturation, the cask deep in the malt.
At a natural 48.8% it is full and rich. Baked apple, honey and a dark chocolate, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Beneath it run dried fruit, dark sugar and a warm spice. Dried fruit, spice and a soft oak see it out. This is a richly sherried Speyside single malt.
