Description
A distillery release of Glendronach, a 27 year old, cask Batch 10, at 50.1%, 2293 bottles in all. Glendronach is a rich Highland malt from the Valley of Forgue, near Huntly. It was mothballed in 1996 and lay silent until production resumed in 2002. The distillery was an early champion of sherry cask maturation, its malt charming Edinburgh society from the start. It joined William Teacher and Sons in 1960 and became a core malt of the Teacher's blend. Its whisky is now overseen by the master blender Dr Rachel Barrie.
It was taken gently through wash and spirit stills, shaping a rich Highland body with real weight. An Oloroso cask held it, drawing the rich spirit on over the years. Through the evaporative decades the esters fold into raisin, fig, beeswax and a bittersweet chocolate. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit.
At a natural 50.1% it is full and rich. A rich orchard sweetness and dark sugar, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Fig, honey and a dark chocolate fill the middle. The finish is long, rich and spiced. This is a dark, fruity Highland single malt.
