An 18 year old Glen Scotia, a distillery bottling, at 46%. Glen Scotia is a Campbeltown single malt known for sea salt, oil and a salted toffee. Its water is drawn from Crosshill Loch above the town.

Run through the stills and shell and tube condensers on Crosshill Loch water, for a briny, oily make of salt, citrus and a salted toffee. Maturation came in an Oloroso cask, layered over the briny Glen Scotia make. At oxidative maturity vanillin and lactones are fully expressed, the salty, oily malt deepening. Refill oak lets the salty, oily Glen Scotia character lead the way. Its Victoriana and single cask releases have won the distillery wide acclaim. The Glen was added to the Scotia name around 1930, the distillery dating to 1832. Its long ferment, averaging well over a hundred hours, builds a fruity, coastal character. The slow distillation and shell and tube condensers give the oily Glen Scotia body.

At an approachable 46% it is soft and coastal. Sea salt, citrus and a salted toffee, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Beneath it run citrus, salt and a soft oil. The finish is long, oily and salted. This is Glen Scotia, a survivor of the old whisky capital.
