Description
A 22 year old Fettercairn from the Italian bottler Samaroli, distilled in 1995, from cask 2808, bottled at 45%, one of 120 bottles. Fettercairn is a Highland malt of pineapple and citrus, distilled at the foot of the mountains. It was founded in 1824 by Sir Alexander Ramsay, who turned a corn mill at Nethermill into a distillery.
Distilled from unpeated malt in stills cooled by their copper rings, the cooling rings lifting a clean, tropical character. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin lending vanilla under the pineapple. In the oxidative, evaporative years concentration brings dried tropical fruit, a roasted coffee and a soft spice. Maturation on site in the Fettercairn dunnage warehouses is slow and steady. Its stills carry unique cooling rings, copper tubes that drench them in cold mountain water. John Gladstone's son William became Prime Minister and reformed the taxation of whisky.
At 45% it is clean and soft. Tropical fruit, vanilla and a soft spice, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is clean, the fruit carried on a light body. The finish runs long, tropical and warming. This is a light, tropical Highland single malt.
