Description
A Fettercairn of a 7 year old chosen by the bottler Riverstown, distilled in 2008, from cask 2015-43, bottled at 60.3%, one of 316 bottles. Fettercairn is a Highland malt of pineapple and citrus, distilled at the foot of the mountains. Its stills carry unique cooling rings, copper tubes that drench them in cold mountain water.
The spirit was drawn off the stills, the cooling rings raising reflux for a fruity spirit, for a light, fruit driven spirit. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, oak lactones lending vanilla and a little coconut. In these extractive early years the oak gives vanillin as vanilla and oak lactones as coconut over bright pineapple and citrus. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. American oak suits the tropical make, lending vanilla and coconut over the fruit. Long ageing turns the fresh tropical fruit towards dried mango, coffee and a soft spice.
At its natural 60.3% it is concentrated. A bright, tropical orchard fruit, with a soft vanilla from the oak. It is fruity and tropical, the light spirit shining through. The finish is rounded, tropical and gently spiced. This is a light, tropical Highland single malt.
