An 18 year old Fettercairn, a distillery bottling, at 46.8%. Fettercairn is a Highland single malt whose tropical character comes from water cooled stills. Its make matures on site in dunnage warehouses, around thirty two thousand casks in all.

The spirit was distilled from unpeated malt in stills cooled by their copper rings, for a clean make of pineapple and citrus. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the light, tropical character to the fore. At oxidative maturity aldehydes lend a nutty edge while ellagitannins add a gentle, drying grip over the fruit. Maturation on site in the Fettercairn dunnage warehouses is slow and steady. Its water comes from springs in the Grampian and Cairngorm mountains above the distillery. The cool Highland air of the Mearns gives a slow, even maturation in the dunnage warehouses. Refill oak lets the light, tropical Fettercairn character lead the way.

At an approachable 46.8% it is light and tropical. Mango, citrus and a soft honey, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Soft tropical fruit and a vanilla sit behind the cask. The close is light and warming, fruit over a gentle oak. This is the light, fruit driven malt of Fettercairn.
