An Edradour of a 10 year old from the Pitlochry bottler Signatory Vintage, at 46%. A rich, oily fruit over a creamy body. Owned since 2002 by the independent bottler Signatory Vintage. Founded in 1825, it keeps the old ways in its farm buildings. Signatory’s wide cask range gives it an unusual variety of finishes. This is a rich Highland malt from a pocket glen at Pitlochry.

Description

The Pitlochry bottler Signatory Vintage bottled this Edradour, a 10 year old, distilled in 2009, from cask 43, bottled at 46%, one of 740 bottles. Edradour is a small, traditional Highland single malt, owned by Signatory since 2002. For years its sign read Scotland's smallest distillery; it now calls itself Scotland's little gem.

The spirit was drawn off the tiny stills and cooled in worm tubs for an oily make, building the creamy Edradour style. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin lending vanilla under the fruit. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into a rounded vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper apple and dried fruit. A small distillery and a hands on approach shape every cask by hand. Under Signatory the range has grown to a wide run of sherry and wine cask bottlings. The tiny stills and worm tubs give an oily spirit that takes the cask well.

At 46% it is rich, nutty and full. Chocolate, dried fruit and a waxy oil, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is oily and creamy, the fruit lifted by vanilla. A rich finish ends on dried fruit and a soft oak. This is Edradour's full bodied, sherried Highland style.
