Description
This Edradour was bottled by the Paris house La Maison du Whisky, a 9 year old, distilled in 2016, from cask 328, bottled at 48.2%, one of 314 bottles. Edradour is a Highland single malt distilled in a pocket glen near Pitlochry since 1825. Its water comes from the Ben Vrackie springs in the hills above the distillery.
It was worked through Oregon pine washbacks and tiny stills for a rich, oily spirit, giving the full bodied, creamy Highland spirit. First fill bourbon gave a fuller vanilla and a touch of coconut from the lactones. At an extractive age eugenol lends a clove note and lactones a coconut, the spirit rich, oily and nutty. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. A gentle maturation suits the oily make, the nutty richness growing with time. The full bodied spirit shows the cask clearly, the sherry and oak to the fore. The distillery sits in a pocket glen at Balnauld, in the hills above Pitlochry in Perthshire.
Bottled at a cask strength 48.2%, it is rich. Dried fruit, fig and a creamy vanilla, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Fig, nut and a creamy malt fill the middle. It finishes long, rich and oily. This is a rich, oily Highland single malt.
