Description

Edradour from the distillery, a 12 year old, from 2012, cask 110-119, at 48.2%, 3987 bottles in all. Edradour is a creamy, sherried Highland single malt from one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland. For years its sign read Scotland's smallest distillery; it now calls itself Scotland's little gem.

The spirit was distilled slowly in the old farm stillhouse on Ben Vrackie water, the worm tubs lending a weighty, oily character. It was matured in a Madeira cask, the wood working slowly into the rich malt. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the rich, oily spirit growing creamier. Active wood frames the rich fruit without overwhelming the oily Highland spirit. Maturation in the dunnage warehouses at Pitlochry is slow and steady. The worm tubs leave an oily weight that carries through the years in cask.

At a natural 48.2% it is full and oily. Dried fruit, nut and a soft chocolate, with a nutty, raisined sweetness from the cask. A baked apple and a gentle spice lift it. Dried fruit, chocolate and a soft oak see out a long finish. This is a rich Highland malt from the pocket glen at Pitlochry.
