Edradour Spätburgunder Barrique Finish 12 Years Old 2012

An official release of Edradour, a 12 year old, from 2012, cask 3, at 53.9%, 318 bottles in all. Edradour is a Highland single malt from the tiny farm distillery at Pitlochry, long called Scotland's smallest. Its tiny copper stills and worm tubs give a rich, oily, full bodied spirit.

The spirit was run through the small stills with their boil ball purifiers, building the creamy Edradour style. Finished in a Pinot Noir cask, the wood building over the oily, full bodied spirit. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the malt, the nutty chocolate deepening. Long ageing turns the rich make towards dried fruit, fig and a soft spice. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. Maturation in the dunnage warehouses at Pitlochry is slow and steady. The worm tubs leave an oily weight that carries through the years in cask.

Bottled at a cask strength 53.9%, it is rich. Dried fruit, chocolate and a nutty oil, with a light red berry and a dry edge from the cask. The texture is oily and creamy, the fruit lifted by vanilla. It finishes long, rich and oily. This is a rich Highland malt from the pocket glen at Pitlochry.
