Description
An official release of Edradour, an 11 year old, from 2009, cask 17, at 55.8%, 709 bottles in all. Edradour is a Highland single malt from a 19th century farm distillery run by a handful of hands. For years its sign read Scotland's smallest distillery; it now calls itself Scotland's little gem.
The spirit was made in the smallest of stills and condensed in worm tubs, giving the full bodied, creamy Highland spirit. It was matured in an Oloroso cask, the wood working slowly into the rich malt. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the oily malt, the body fuller and creamier. Ben Vrackie water and a long ferment give the rich Edradour make. Maturation in the dunnage warehouses at Pitlochry is slow and steady. It keeps the old ways, with an open cast iron mash tun, Oregon pine washbacks and worm tub condensers. Its tiny copper stills and worm tubs give a rich, oily, full bodied spirit.
At cask strength 55.8% it is big and oily. A full, fruity sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Fig, nut and a creamy malt fill the middle. It finishes long, rich and oily. This is Edradour's full bodied, sherried Highland style.
