Description
This official Edradour, a 10 year old, from 2009, cask 353, at 57.9%, 933 bottles in all. Edradour is a rich, oily Highland single malt made in the old farm buildings above Pitlochry. It is one of the smallest traditional distilleries in Scotland, long run by just two or three hands.
It was distilled from unpeated malt in tiny copper stills and worm tubs, the worm tubs lending a weighty, oily character. Finished in an Oloroso cask, the wood building over the oily, full bodied spirit. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into a rounded vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper apple and dried fruit. A gentle maturation suits the oily make, the nutty richness growing with time. The worm tubs leave an oily weight that carries through the years in cask. Refill oak lets the rich, oily Edradour character lead the way.
At a hearty 57.9% it carries real weight. Dried fruit, fig and a creamy vanilla, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Soft chocolate and a nutty oil sit behind the cask. Dried fruit, chocolate and a soft oak see out a long finish. This is Edradour, one of Scotland's smallest distilleries.
