Description
This official Edradour, a 13 year old, from 2007, cask 382-384 + 386-388, at 59.1%, 1290 bottles in all. Edradour is a rich, oily Highland single malt made in the old farm buildings above Pitlochry. A 2018 expansion added a second still house, the production still small and traditional.
It was worked through Oregon pine washbacks and tiny stills for a rich, oily spirit, for a full, oily make of dried fruit and chocolate. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the gentle American oak letting the oily make lead. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the malt, the nutty chocolate deepening. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. Active wood frames the rich fruit without overwhelming the oily Highland spirit. Refill oak lets the rich, oily Edradour character lead the way. It once supplied blends such as House of Lords and King's Ransom.
At its natural 59.1% it is rich and full bodied. A rich, nutty sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Soft chocolate and a nutty oil sit behind the cask. The finish runs long, nutty and warming. This is a rich Highland malt from the pocket glen at Pitlochry.
