Description
This official Edradour, a 12 year old, from 2007, cask 1, at 57.5%, 408 bottles in all. Edradour is a Highland single malt distilled in a pocket glen near Pitlochry since 1825. For years its sign read Scotland's smallest distillery; it now calls itself Scotland's little gem.
It was run through the small stills with their boil ball purifiers, the worm tubs lending a weighty, oily character. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the gentle American oak letting the oily make lead. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into a rounded vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper apple and dried fruit. Long ageing turns the rich make towards dried fruit, fig and a soft spice. It was founded in 1825, growing out of an old farmers' cooperative in the glen above Pitlochry. The tiny stills and worm tubs give an oily spirit that takes the cask well.
At a natural 57.5% it is full and oily. A rich, nutty sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is thick and oily, the fruit on a creamy body. A rich finish ends on dried fruit and a soft oak. This is a rich Highland malt from the pocket glen at Pitlochry.
