Description
Edradour from the distillery, a 9 year old, from 2006, at 46%, 2250 bottles in all. Edradour is a Highland single malt distilled in a pocket glen near Pitlochry since 1825. Under Signatory the range has grown to a wide run of sherry and wine cask bottlings.
It was made in the smallest of stills and condensed in worm tubs, building the creamy Edradour style. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, oak lactones lending vanilla and a little coconut. Young and extractive, the cask sheds vanillin (vanilla) and toasted sugars (light caramel) over the creamy make. The full bodied spirit shows the cask clearly, the sherry and oak to the fore. A 2018 expansion added a second still house, the production still small and traditional. Its water comes from the Ben Vrackie springs in the hills above the distillery. The distillery sits in a pocket glen at Balnauld, in the hills above Pitlochry in Perthshire.
At an approachable 46% it is soft and oily. Dried fruit, chocolate and a nutty oil, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Soft chocolate and a nutty oil sit behind the cask. The finish is long, oily and gently spiced. This is the oily, rich malt of tiny Edradour.
