Description
Edradour from the distillery, a 10 year old, from 2006, cask 222, at 58.6%, 465 bottles in all. Edradour is a Highland single malt distilled in a pocket glen near Pitlochry since 1825. A 2018 expansion added a second still house, the production still small and traditional.
It was distilled slowly in the old farm stillhouse on Ben Vrackie water, for a rich, nutty spirit with a waxy depth. A Madeira cask held it, shaping the oily spirit over the years. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the oily malt, the body fuller and creamier. Long ageing turns the rich make towards dried fruit, fig and a soft spice. Signatory's wide cask range gives the small distillery an unusual variety of finishes. It was bought in 2002 by Andrew Symington of the independent bottler Signatory Vintage. Its water comes from the Ben Vrackie springs in the hills above the distillery.
At its natural 58.6% it is rich and full bodied. A full, fruity sweetness, with a nutty, raisined sweetness from the cask. Beneath it run dried fruit, chocolate and a soft oil. It finishes long, rich and oily. This is a rich Highland malt from the pocket glen at Pitlochry.
